Discover where Simon van der Stel set up camp in the Eerste River and why it is called the Eerste River. Perhaps you will meet an angel at the “Angel Factory” or a ghost in the graveyard of the ”Moederkerk”.

Three fires destroyed the village. Where did the fire of 1710 start and who started it? The first Christian Church building in South Africa was in Stellenbosch not in Cape Town. Today it is the site of the oldest hotel in South Africa, d’Ouwe Werf and not all the graves have been moved!

Dorp Street, “the wagon way to Cape Town” is the oldest residential street in South Africa today. It is still the wagon way to Cape Town, only the wagons have changed somewhat!

Historical buildings surround three sides of The Braak (village green) During the 1809 and 1811 earth tremor, people rushed out of their houses onto the Braak. The Braak was already proclaimed by Simon van der Stel, the eleventh governor, as an open space for the people and as a military parade ground.

Thoroughly enjoyed the Stellenbosch on Foot and found all the historical facts very informative and can recommend this walk to everyone. The guide too was very friendly and all historical facts he discussed was so interesting. - Johanna

My son and I loved the tour of the beautiful city of Stellenbosch. Our guide took time to share insights and answer questions. Learning the history of the city was quite interesting as well as learning about the hotel where we were staying. She also gave us some great restaurants to try. We appreciated her taking the time to point out properties and history important to the city. Will definitely recommend others to take the tour. - Mark

We enjoyed the (private) tour very much. The guide told us in a very pleasant way a lot about the history of Stellenbosch and we have learnt and seen a lot of this. Beautiful historic monumental buildings, all with their own story - Bert

My overseas visitors along with my husband thought it was absolutely fabulous. So informative and a highlight of their trip. Their guide was excellent. My cousin and I were unable to do the walk and want to give a shout out to the lovely kind and caring office staff also who brought out chairs for us while we waited as the tour went over by a few minutes.
