Guided bicycle tour through Stellenbosch

Activity Description

This tour combines the beautiful scenery and sites of Historic Stellenbosch with excellent wine pairings and some healthy outdoor exercise.

The tour starts 9:00 at the Adventureshop office. Each rider will collect a bike and helmet to suit their size. E-Bikes also available. The guide will have space in the backpack for those who would like to buy wine en-route.
The tour starts with a historic tour of Stellenbosch, visiting some of the historic sites in town. We will cycle through Stellenbosch and head to the scenic Jonkershoek valley. A winding road through oak and poplar forests will take you to a wine estate nestled in the valley bottom, here you can take in the stunning views while doing wine tasting of award winning wines on an island in a lake.
On the way out of the valley, you will stop at another wine estate which sports beautiful grounds and historic Cape Dutch architecture. Here we will do a cellar tour before we start our Chocolate and Wine pairing that will make your taste buds tingle.

After the tasting we will head back into Stellenbosch Town via the Stellenbosch University before ending the tour again at our office

There are some variations to the route, with varying levels of difficulty so the tour can be tailored to suit your cycling ability. Family tours can also be booked.
NEW: Option to do the tour on an E- bike at an additional cost.

Children under 5 years are free (cycle in baby seat with parents). Children who cycle on their own, full rate. Children will do Chocolate and Ice tea tasting.

Customer Reviews

We really enjoyed the cycle tour. It is a great way of moving through a beautiful small town that is so rich in history. Saveriani was a great tour guide with good knowledge and facts about his subject. The wine and chocolate pairing was also well worth it. We met nice people on the tour which made it more fun too! - Andrew

We were completely blown away by our knowledgeable guide Sav, as well as, the service we received from Ashten. Sav's knowledge of local history is incredible and was delivered in a way that our kids could picture being there at the time. His patience with our family (teenagers) was appreciated. - Fiori

A fantastic cycle and wine tour. I am not an expert cyclist so I took an e bike but my husband took a regular tourer. There were 5 in the group led by Danny our guide. Danny took us through the historic sights of Stellenbosch giving us an overview of its history and then on to 2 vineyards. Stark Conde and Lanzeroc both were stunning and provided a lovely wine tasting experience. It was a highlight on our Garden route tour made special by the combination of beautiful Stellenbosch, a lovely diverse group of people and a fantastic guide. I would not hesitate in recommending. - Yvonne

Our experience was quite good. Tayne was excellent guide. He knew a lot about Stellenbosch and its history. We went to two solid wineries. We are not wine people and would have preferred to spend more time biking and seeing more sites vs the amount of time spent doing tastings. We understand that was the tour, we just wish we had an option. Overall great experience. - Anne

We really enjoyed our ride round Stellenbosch. Our guide was very well informed and we felt that the split of time between that in the town and then out to the vineyards was about right. If you want an adrenalin rush then this would not be for you, however if you want an interesting ride (about 90 minutes of cycling) , with two wine tastings then I would recommend this tour. - Paul
