The river cruise for people who always read the little signs at museums.

This educational cruise takes the time to tell the Sundays River’s story. Over two and a half hours on the water at Colchester, near Addo in the Eastern Cape, you’ll learn about the river, its birdlife and the surrounding landscape, including why it was called Nukakamma, “grassy water”, by the Khoisan. Questions are encouraged; there’s no test at the end, we promise.

Duration: 2.5 hours. Departures at 10:00, 13:00 and 16:00.

Meeting point: 1 Jetty Street, Colchester, just below the southern entrance gate of Addo Elephant National Park.

Who it suits: curious travellers, school and study groups, families with inquisitive children, birders and anyone who wants more than a scenic ride. Groups of 1 to 42 people can be accommodated.

What to bring: sunscreen, a hat, binoculars if you have them and a camera. Add a snack platter to your cruise, or visit A Taste of Africa Restaurant & Coffee Bar nearby.
